Neil Barry lives aboard his 50-foot sloop, Imagine, cruising the East Coast of the U.S., the Bahamas, and points south. Born in Sydney, Australia, he began sailing at 12 years old. While studying architecture in college, he graduated from 12-foot boats to crewing on racing yachts on Sydney Harbour and offshore.
In 1977, he took time off from sailing to attend graduate school, travel the world, raise a family, and build a career as an academic. His next boat arrived 13 years later, a 28-foot cutter that he finished from the bare-hull stage. He sailed with his family on a small man-made lake in the Midwest for 17 years before the ocean called again.
